Bringing Integrated Water Resource Management to Communities

Over the last 6 months, the SCHI team have been working closely with Water for People in Chikwawa to bring learning from across the District to the Mfera area. Water for People have been working with Professor Kalin from the University of Strathclyde in the development of a community level integrated water resoScreen Shot 2016-07-01 at 10.35.37urce management programme in the Chapananga area of Chikwawa. Their Climate Justice
project (also funded by the Scottish Government International Development Fund) has piloted a series of interventions to make best use of ground water resources in village settings (Sustainable Groundwater)

SCHI were excited to work with the Water for People and Chikwawa District Water office to extend the ‘At what cost” and “borehole banking” concepts to the 24 water point committees targeted in the Mfera area. Groups were excited to learn new concepts to help them sustain their water supplies and ensure best use of the water available to them for community benefit.
