Addressing healthy settings in Malawi
Dr Tracy Morse is the Malawi based project manager of the SCHI. based in Malawi since 2000, Dr Morse has been undertaking health research and managing intervention programmes since that time.
Dr Tara Beattie is the Scotland based project manager of the SCHI. A lecturer in environmental health, Dr Beattie has been involved in work in Malawi since 1997 where she has taught courses on food safety, advised on microbiological research and supervised numerous postgraduate students.
Mr Save Kumwenda is a senior lecturer in environmental health based at the University of Malawi (Polytechnic). Currently undertaking his PhD in ecological sanitation, Mr Kumwenda also has a role as District Coordinator for SCHI.
Mr Scatter Makumbi was previously an HSA with the Ministry of Health and has now worked with the SCHI programme since it’s inception in 2006 as field coordinator. A native of Chikhwawa District Mr Makumbi is an invaluable member of the team.
Mrs Sarah Rippon is a PhD student researching the effective measurement of whole systems for the healthy settings programme. A social anthropologist, Sarah brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the SCHI team in health promotion and behaviour change.
The SCHI team has expanded to include Sothin Ziba and Rossanie Daudi who recently graduated with BSc in Environmental Health from the Malawi Polytechnic. They are working together to develop the Health Promoting Schools programme for SCHI within the three target schools. They have also been involved in the development and implementation of the RE:ACTIVE programme at Mfera CDSS.
